Orkney's MSP, Liam McArthur, has once again urged the Deputy First Minister, John Swinney, to find an urgent resolution to the "long-running saga" of replacing Orkney's ageing internal ferry fleet.
International Day of Persons with Disabilities falls on the 3rd of December each year, with the aim of promoting empowerment, and helping to create real opportunities for people with disabilities. This enhances their own capacities and supports them in setting their own priorities. The theme this year is "Transformative solutions for inclusive development: the role of innovation in fuelling an accessible and equitable world". As we mark the day, one billion people around the world live with a disability - that's roughly 15% of the global population.
Mayor Dave Hodgson assisted with the planting of a replacement Sorbus tree on Cornwall Road last week. The Council Highways team have been working hard to reinstate historic tree pit locations across Bedford Borough. Over 130 new tree pits have been created in the past two years, the majority this year.

Last month NHS data revealed that 248 local people had to wait more than two weeks to see a cancer specialist after a GP referral.
