Sustained pressure from Martin Wrigley MP and cross-party colleagues has delivered a significant victory for Ukrainians in the UK. Crucially, the window for application has been expanded from just 28 days to 90 days before a visa expires, offering thousands of families greater security and stability, and long term solutions are being sought out.

This latest achievement builds on previous success, including the securing of an initial two-year extension to the Homes for Ukraine Scheme last year.

Martin Wrigley MP said:

"Last year, I secured a two-year extension to the Homes for Ukraine Scheme through a debate in Parliament, making clear that short-term fixes were not enough and that Ukrainians in the UK needed real certainty.

“Since then, I have continued to campaign for greater security and long-term support and solutions to help Ukrainians in the UK. I pressed ministers directly, supported cross-party efforts to raise concerns about the UPE Scheme, and called for longer extensions and clearer guarantees for everyone.

"Working alongside colleagues across the House, including with the letter led by Wendy Chamberlain, a letter lead by Mike Martin MP, and the Ukraine APPG chaired by Alex Sobel, we made the case that Ukrainians who are working, studying and contributing to our communities deserve stability, not uncertainty.

"Today, that sustained pressure has delivered results. Mike Tapp has announced that the Government will set out a longer-term framework later this year, and crucially, an expanding of the window of application from just 28 days to 90 days.

"This is a significant and welcome step forward, giving reassurance to thousands of Ukrainian families. I want to thank parliamentary colleagues from all parties, universities, local authorities, sponsors and Ukrainian advocacy groups who worked constructively to make the case for change. This is real progress, and we will continue working to ensure long-term security and support for Ukrainians both here in the UK and in Ukraine.”
